SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 13, 2025--

LegalOn Technologies today announced it has surpassed ¥10 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR), approximately $67M, becoming the fastest AI company founded in Japan to reach this milestone. The achievement comes just months after LegalOn’s $50 million Series E raise, bringing its total funding to $200 million.

LegalOn’s platform is trusted by more than 7,000 legal teams worldwide, including over 30% of Japan’s public companies and 87% of its Fortune 500 firms. By combining AI with the expertise of experienced attorneys, LegalOn reduces contract review time by up to 85%, helping legal teams save time, reduce risk and accelerate their businesses.

“Legal teams around the world are buried in tedious work, and they need AI they can trust to handle it,” said Daniel Lewis, Global CEO of LegalOn. “This milestone shows that combining AI with trusted, attorney-developed content uniquely addresses these challenges, helping legal teams work faster with greater confidence.”

From Tokyo Startup to Global Scale

LegalOn was founded in Tokyo in 2017 by two corporate lawyers who were frustrated by the inefficiencies and risks of manual contract review. They saw how manual review required long hours, introduced frequent errors and slowed business down, and they set out to change it with technology.

In 2019, after assembling a team of leading technologists and two years of research and development, LegalOn launched its first product, contract review AI. This breakthrough quickly gained adoption among thousands of customers and helped accelerate legal AI adoption in Japan.

By the time generative AI became mainstream in 2022, LegalOn was already at the forefront of legal AI innovation, releasing advanced features like AI contract editing and redlining. From contract review, LegalOn has expanded to become legal AI for businesses’ legal teams, with AI for matter management, contract management, compliance and other legal tasks.

This innovation-driven growth enabled LegalOn to surpass ¥10 billion in ARR just six and a half years after launching its first product—faster than any other AI company founded in Japan.

Alongside product expansion, the company has grown internationally, opening offices and hiring staff in the US and UK to serve customers around the world. Recent strategic collaborations, including with OpenAI, and its latest funding will support continued global growth and ongoing investment in AI capabilities.

“We achieved this milestone thanks to our customers’ trust and our colleagues’ relentless drive to change how legal work is done,” said Nozomu Tsunoda, co-founder and Group CEO of LegalOn. “We're proud that the principles at our core—craftsmanship, precision, speed and careful attention to legal quality—are enabling our global success.”
