East Carolina scores 6 TDs in first half to cruise past North Carolina Central 42-9

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Emory Williams threw three touchdown passes and TJ Engleman Jr. accounted for three scores, and East Carolina rolled past North Carolina Central 42-9 on Saturday.

East Carolina (2-2) scored 35 points in the second quarter and led 42-3 at halftime.

Williams finished 25-of-36 passing for 341 yards. Engleman had 129 yards rushing on 10 carries with two scores, including an 88-yard touchdown run with 1:49 to go before the break. Engleman also scored on a 5-yard run and caught an 8-yard TD pass.

East Carolina's Ayden Duncanson had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown 20 seconds after Engleman’s long scoring run. Ray Ray Joseph Jr. finished with 141 yards on 10 receptions for the Pirates.

Nelson Layne and Cobey Thompkins combined for 16-of-26 passing for 140 yards and three interceptions for North Carolina Central (2-3). Thompkins threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Nasim Cosby with about six minutes left in the game.

North Carolina Central: Hosts Campbell on Saturday.

East Carolina: At home against Rice on Oct. 10.
