ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec 16, 2025--

Recognizing that research facilities use five to 10 times as much energy as office buildings, the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) has launched the first laboratory-specific software service for creating automated energy audits. The Actionable Insights and Measures (AIM) software allows lab owners, facility managers, engineers, and consultants around the world to identify and prioritize lab building efficiency improvements, as well as to calculate projected energy and cost savings.

AIM is the latest offering from I2SL’s Labs2Zero program, which also provides free energy benchmarking and energy and emissions scores for lab buildings. AIM is now available for use internationally, including global weather data, currencies, utility rates, and implementation costs.

“AIM analyzes costs, energy savings, and return on investment for a variety of lab building improvement measures, as well as providing case studies of each measure in action,” said Gordon Sharp, President, I2SL Board of Directors. “Developed by unbiased experts in lab energy efficiency technology, AIM is a quick, affordable, and accessible way to generate energy audits customized for one facility or a whole portfolio of research buildings.”

The AIM software makes intelligent assumptions based on lab building properties and allows users to refine their inputs to get more accurate results. Subscribers can then build an energy audit report from a library of more than two dozen lab-specific energy saving measures.

Users access AIM by entering facility and utility data into I2SL’s free Lab Benchmarking Tool. Monthly and annual AIM subscriptions allow users to generate unlimited energy audit reports for their whole portfolio of lab buildings. I2SL also offers a free “demo” version so users can try all the software features with a handful of energy conservation measures before subscribing to unlock the full measure library.

AIM was developed to be an unbiased tool based on the expertise of more than 50 professionals from the lab architecture, engineering, energy services, academic, and pharmaceutical communities who volunteer on Labs2Zero technical advisory councils, and its development was supported by 30 program sponsors. For more information, visit www.i2sl.org/aim-report, or access the tool directly at https://lbt.i2sl.org/aim-report.
