Falcons' Ryan takes blame as late interception leads to loss

ATLANTA (AP) — Quarterback Matt Ryan accepted the blame after another crucial missed opportunity extended the Atlanta Falcons' losing streak. Coach Dan Quinn was fired hours after Atlanta's 23-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers, but Ryan said players were responsible for the loss. Ryan especially bemoaned his poor throw on a potential tying drive in the fourth quarter that was intercepted by Carolina safety Juston Burris. The loss left the Falcons 0-5 for the first time since 1997. Quinn needed to take Atlanta back to the playoffs this season, but the fifth consecutive loss led to owner Arthur Blank's decision to fire the coach.
