Blaze rips through north Georgia lumber business

CLEVELAND, Ga. (AP) — A massive fire that started Thursday at a north Georgia lumber facility could take days to burn itself out. North Georgia Hardwoods in Cleveland caught fire before dawn Thursday. Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt says the blaze was contained by 7:30 a.m., but continued to burn through 3 million board feet of lumber and three buildings. No injuries have been reported. Pruitt says an employee who lives in an apartment onsite noticed the blaze. A driver who had delivered a load of lumber during the night was asleep in his truck when the blaze damaged his truck and trailer. Pruitt says investigators can't seek the fire's cause until the site cools down. The state fire marshal will assist.
