Georgia board picks 2 companies to sell medical marijuana

ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia board has approved medical marijuana production licenses for two companies. The Wednesday vote by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission moves the state a step closer to providing legal access to marijuana oil after a seven-year wait. Georgia authorized medical marijuana oil in 2015 to treat illnesses including severe seizures, Parkinson’s disease and terminal cancers. But there is still no legal way to buy it in the state. The commission attempted to award licenses last year, but losing bidders tied up the process with legal appeals. An administrative law judge ruled against the appeals last week. But the commission awarded only 2 of 6 licenses, citing other legal issues.
