GBI: Man fatally shot after firing gun at Georgia officer

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a Georgia police officer fatally shot a man who opened fire with a gun during a foot chase in the port city of Brunswick. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Sunday it is conducting an independent investigation, which is common practice for shootings by police officers in the state. The GBI says a Brunswick police patrol officer looking for a speeding car early Saturday evening saw a man begin running. The officer began a foot chase. The GBI says during that chase the man being pursued fired several shots at a different officer. That officer, Lt. Donald Babbin, returned fire and fatally shot 33-year-old Charles Eric Moses Jr.
