Democrat's win stands after Georgia state House race recount

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A recount in a Georgia state House race changed the margin by one vote, but not the winner. Chatham County Elections Supervisor Russell Bridges says Derek Mallow defeated Anne Allen Westbrook by 19 votes to win the Democratic nomination in state House District 163. The district covers parts of Savannah. The original tally had Mallow winning the Aug. 11 election by 20 votes. A hand recount found one vote for Mallow had been counted twice. Mallow faces no opposition in November. Incumbent J. Craig Gordon didn’t seek reelection. An earlier recount of a Republican runoff in northeast Georgia affirmed that Bo Hatchett beat Stacy Hall for the nomination in Senate District 50, which includes all or parts of eight counties.
