BADALONA, Spain (AP) — Spanish police carried out an early-morning eviction at an abandoned school in Badalona, north of Barcelona, where hundreds of mostly undocumented migrants had been living.

The migrants knew the eviction was coming and some were gone by the time police arrived. Others held out and were emotional, engaging in brief but non-violent confrontations with riot police.

They hauled away their belongings — sleeping bags, teddy bears, a microwave oven — some piled high on carts pulled by bicycles.

Regional authorities were preparing shelter for dozens of people but a lawyer representing the migrants predicted that some would end up forced to sleep on the streets.
