HOF Bills helping...Cortes regrets old tweets

BUFFALO (AP) — Former Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas and his wife have raised more than $100,000 through their foundation to support the families of the Buffalo mass shooting that left 10 dead. Thomas says fellow Bills Hall of Famers Andre Reed, Bruce Smith, and Jim Kelley plan to come together as the city and its residents deal with the aftermath of the shooting that killed 10 people.

BALTIMORE (AP) — New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes says he deactivated his Twitter account after screenshots surfaced of tweets from a decade ago that included racial slurs. Cortes appeared to be quoting rap lyrics in at least some of the tweets. Cortes said Monday he felt it wasn’t the right message he wanted to send out. He says he could have managed himself and said things differently.

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have signed veteran defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker and cornerback Kenneth George. The Titans also placed safety Jamal Carter on injured reserve . Walker has played 49 games in five seasons with Denver and Houston. George went undrafted after playing 33 games in four seasons at the University of Tennessee.

DETROIT (AP) — A man says he's a “giant walking bruise” after falling 15 feet to the ground when a concrete Comerica Park footbridge collapsed. Ely Hydes said the incident occurred May 9 . But the bridge over the Lodge Freeway still was open until The Detroit News reached out to the state Transportation Department on Sunday.

NEW YORK (AP) — The game between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets scheduled for tonight has been postponed because of rain in the forecast and will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader Tuesday at Citi Field. The first game will begin at 3:10 p.m., with the nightcap to follow 30-40 minutes after the opener ends.
