Cavs trade Porter...Durant sits out

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cavaliers have officially parted with forward Kevin Porter Jr. Cleveland completed its trade with Houston, sending Porter to the Rockets for a future second-round draft pick. The Cavs made the deal after running out of patience with a player they once viewed as a possible franchise cornerstone. Porter, a first-round pick in 2019, has been a problem off the floor. He hasn’t played this season. The team was reintegrating him last week when Porter had an outburst after learning his locker room space had been given to a newly acquired player.

CLEVELAND (AP) —Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant sat out last night against the Cavaliers as the team maintains a cautious approach with his surgically repaired Achilles tendon. Durant played 50 minutes in the Nets’ 147-135 double-overtime loss to the Cavaliers on Wednesday night. He had 38 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in Brooklyn’s first game with Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden on the floor together. The Nets, who recently acquired Harden in a blockbuster trade, host Miami on Saturday night. Durant is averaging 31.3 points.

UNDATED (AP) — Former New York Mets manager Davey Johnson is in a Florida hospital with COVID-19, according to former Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz. The 77-year-old Johnson was a four-time All-Star second baseman and managed the Mets to their last World Series title in 1986. He spent most of his playing career with Baltimore and Atlanta before managing the Mets, Cincinnati, the Orioles, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals.

CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Olympic champion Sofia Goggia (GOH’-jah) is dominating the World Cup downhill season like no woman since ski great Lindsey Vonn. Goggia won her fourth straight downhill today to match a World Cup streak last achieved by Vonn in 2018. The Italian star finished 0.27 seconds faster than Lara Gut-Behrami. Goggia’s teammate Elena Curtoni was 0.60 back in third. That ended Breezy Johnson’s streak of four third-place finishes in downhill. She finished fifth. Johnson is the most consistent American threat in downhill since Vonn’s career ended two years ago.

KITZBÜHEL, Austria (AP) — The second men’s World Cup downhill on the Streif course in Kitzbuhel (KIHTZ’-byool), Austria, has been pushed back to tomorrow after rain and snowfall canceled today’s race. A super-G initially planned for tomorrow has been postponed to Monday. The downhill in the Austrian Alps on one of the most frightening courses of the circuit is an annual highlight of the Alpine skiing season.
