Authorities: Hiker dies in fall at Georgia's Yonah Mountain

CLEVELAND, Ga. (AP) — Emergency officials say a woman hiking Georgia’s Yonah Mountain fell near a trail and died Tuesday. News outlets quoted White County's public safety director as saying that crews responded to the Yonah Mountain Trailhead in north Georgia at around 10:30 a.m., where a female hiker had fallen from the rock face. The woman died at the scene. White County Fire-EMS said rescuers rappelled to where the body fell and recovered it using a rope pulley system. The victim hasn't been identified. No additional details have been released. Yonah Mountain sits between Cleveland and Helen in the northeast corner of the state. It peaks at 3,166 feet.
