Cantex Continuing Care Network (Cantex) proudly announces the launch of its in-house blood transfusion program, making Cantex the first skilled nursing provider in Texas, and among the first in the nation, to offer this advanced level of care within its facilities.
This innovative service allows eligible patients to receive medically necessary blood transfusions without the disruption of hospital transfers. By treating patients in place, Cantex aims to:
- Enhance patient safety and comfort by eliminating stressful hospital trips.
- Improve continuity of care by reducing avoidable hospitalizations and ER visits.
- Support healthcare system efficiency by freeing hospital resources for acute cases.
Providing a clinical perspective, “Blood transfusions are often critical for patients with chronic conditions such as anemia or cancer,” said Cindy Bliss, VP of Clinical Operations at Cantex. “Providing this service in-house means faster treatment, fewer hospital transfers, and better outcomes.”
The program launched at The Belmont at Twin Creeks in Allen, TX and will expand across Cantex facilities in the coming months. Transfusions will be administered by highly trained registered nurses under physician oversight, following rigorous safety protocols and compliance standards.
The introduction of the blood transfusion program comes on the heels of Newsweek Magazine recognizing six Cantex communities as America’s Best Nursing Homes 2026, including The Belmont at Twin Creeks. TheraCare San Antonio was also named an America’s Best Home Health Agencies 2026. These acknowledgements underscore Cantex’s excellence in clinical outcomes, high levels of resident satisfaction, and exemplary performance.
“Our mission has always been to deliver exceptional care where our patients live,” said Robin F. Underhill, CEO of Cantex. “Introducing in-house transfusions is a transformative step toward that goal, one that elevates quality of life and sets a new standard for long-term care.”
