Atlanta schools recruiting volunteers to give vaccine shots

ATLANTA — One of Georgia's largest school systems is recruiting volunteer medical professionals who would administer COVID-19 vaccinations to teachers and others. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Atlanta Public Schools is taking the step in anticipation of shots becoming available to teachers and staff members. Georgia teachers are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine, but Gov. Brian Kemp has said that he will soon make an announcement about expanding vaccine eligibility to include more groups of people. Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Herring wrote in a blog post that the district is preparing for thousands of educators to take the vaccine, once eligibility is expanded. She said that means the district needs to recruit hundreds of volunteers.
