‘Taiwan Plus’ debuts in Osaka, strengthening Taiwan-Japan connection
GACC Secretary-General Lee Hou-ching noted that “Taiwan Plus” brought over 100 Taiwanese brands to Osaka, marking the largest number of exhibitors to date. He emphasized that the market not only showcased the creativity of Taiwanese brands but also aimed to deepen Japanese visitors’ understanding and appreciation of Taiwan’s unique diversity.
This year’s “Taiwan Plus” highlighted the unique styles of both Taiwan and Japan, featuring handicrafts, food, design, and the Japan debut of 20 Taiwanese brands. Many exhibitors proudly embraced sustainable practices, reflecting Taiwan’s commitment to innovative design while promoting environmental responsibility.
Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang highlighted that “Taiwan Plus” integrates Taiwanese culture into the daily life of the Japanese community. Beyond traditional art forms like literature and film, she noted that this market offers an intimate connection with the spirit of Taiwan—an experience that resonates deeply with visitors.
Held over two weekends, “Taiwan Plus” welcomed more than 100,000 visitors within just four days, making it the most popular Taiwanese cultural showcase outside of the World Expo, dubbed as “the Taiwan Pavilion beyond the Expo.”
Since its inception in 2018 in Tokyo and its first appearance in Kyoto last year, “Taiwan Plus” now brings fresh opportunities for Japanese audiences to engage with Taiwan up close—and it promises to grow even more in future editions.
