Seek Victory

There are people you may know who live more like victims than victors. Some of those people have created their own realities, where they are never at fault for the things that happen to them. If they keep losing jobs, the last person they consider blaming is themselves. There are other people who are legitimate victims. They had nothing to do with the difficult hand they were dealt, but the way they played their hand resulted in victory for them.

I used to speak alongside a guy named Reggie, who had every reason to feel like a victim.  Reggie shared with his audiences how he was the result of one man’s fling with his mom at the cost of about $20. He shares how for $20, his mom was willing to have sex with a dad he’s never known. She was a prostitute, and from that encounter—which seems almost unbelievable—came an awesome young man. When Reggie tells his story, people weep because they realize that if he can come from that situation, if he can find hope in that desperate of a story, then certainly they can find hope in their own circumstances. 

If anyone had a right to feel wronged, it was Reggie. Even though he did nothing to cause the circumstances in his life, he embraced what he was given and worked hard to turn his life around. There are many stories like his that bring hope to what seems hopeless. 

I believe you and I have the same choice. We can choose to focus on the positive aspects of our life and make a difference. That difference might be what you do in your marriage and how you raise your family. For example, you don’t have to repeat the cycle of abuse or addiction you may have witnessed in your childhood. You can choose to overcome those challenges in your past and make a difference for your wife and kids.

Some people might need the help of professional counseling to overcome circumstances. You don’t have to work through things on your own, and there are absolutely people who can help! Today, I would encourage you to begin a new path, where you don’t live with a victim mentality, but one where you seek victory. Reggie has done that, I have sought to do that, and I challenge you to do the same.
