Loving Others Was Never Supposed to Be Easy

Most of us love the idea of love.

What we struggle with are the people.

The difficult conversations. The misunderstandings. The disappointments. The moments when someone says something hurtful, lets us down, or simply gets on our nerves.

Yet Jesus never called us to love only the easy people.

Philippians 2 points us to the example of Christ, who willingly humbled Himself, served others, and ultimately gave His life for people who often rejected Him.

That's the kind of love we're called to reflect.

Not because others always deserve it. Not because it's easy. But because we've already received that kind of love from God.

The truth is that loving others often requires sacrifice. It means choosing grace over bitterness, patience over frustration, and forgiveness over resentment.

We won't do this perfectly. But through the work of the Holy Spirit, we can become people who love more like Jesus every day.

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You for loving me when I was difficult to love. Thank You for extending grace, mercy, and forgiveness when I didn't deserve it.

Today I confess that there are people I struggle to love. Sometimes their actions hurt me. Sometimes their words frustrate me. Sometimes I simply don't want to extend grace.

Help me love the way You love.

Give me patience when I'm irritated, compassion when I'm hurt, and humility when I want to be right. Teach me to reflect Your character in my relationships.

Produce in me a love that is sacrificial, generous, and rooted in Your Spirit.
