Fifteen years ago, Wisconsin implemented Act 10, a significant reform package spearheaded by Governor Scott Walker. This legislation tackled labor policy and fiscal issues to address a $3 billion budget shortfall. Act 10 granted local school districts more control over teacher benefits and shifted the hiring focus to quality over seniority. These reforms have since saved Wisconsin taxpayers over $35 billion. Joining Hugh Hewitt to discuss the impact of Act 10 is Jonathan Williams, president of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Williams highlights the broader implications of Wisconsin's reforms, noting that similar efforts in states like Arizona, Tennessee, and Utah have also achieved notable success. Despite initial opposition from progressive groups, Wisconsin's economy has flourished, demonstrating the effectiveness of these strategic changes.
