MercyMe frontman Bart Millard walked the red carpet at the Nashville premiere of I Can Only Imagine 2, where he spoke with Brandon Woolum about the emotional weight of seeing his story continue on screen. Though he admitted he was nervous to watch the film with an audience, Bart shared that the sequel was not originally his idea and grew out of the deeply personal story behind MercyMe’s song “Even If” and his journey as a father raising a son with diabetes. Hearing from families who face similar daily struggles has made the film’s message especially meaningful.

Millard also reflected on the vulnerability of allowing fans deeper access into his life through movies, books, and music, while embracing storytelling in new ways beyond songwriting. He hopes audiences leave the theater encouraged, reminded they are not alone in their pain, and able to see their own story reflected on screen. As this chapter unfolds, Bart is also looking ahead to another emotional milestone as his son prepares to make his Grand Ole Opry debut alongside MercyMe.
