MACON, Ga. (AP) — Asia Durr scored 23 points to lead St. Pius X to a 48-45 win over Buford Saturday in the GHSA Class AAA girls state championship game at the Macon Coliseum.
The Golden Lions (30-3) won their second consecutive state championship and fifth overall. Buford (30-3) now has lost in the championship game twice in three seasons. The Wolves missed out on last year's championship game when St. Pius eliminated them in the state quarterfinals.
Durr, who ESPN ranks as the No. 1 junior girls basketball player in the nation, did most of her damage from the foul line, making 12 of 14 free throws.
Buford opened the game with a 15-3 run, but St. Pius outscored the Wolves 32-14 in the middle two quarters.
In the final seconds, the Wolves turned the ball over after attempting a layup rather than a 3-pointer.
Camille Anderson led Buford with 14 points.
